Proper Job Ltd (Chagford)
Proper Job's site provides reuse, recycling and composting facilities. The public can recycle up to 18 different lines, including metals, sheet glass, wood, soil and rubble, cabling, cardboard, foil, textiles. Reuse facilities include paint, books, clothing, furniture, household items, timber, DIY and salvage.

Proper Job also runs a community cafe and wholefood shop in Chagford which sells organic, local, and fair trade products. The Resource Centre composts up to 100 tonnes per year of household garden waste, which is resold to the community as compost, soil conditioners and mulches. The project offers reuse, and recycling from its site. The Chagford Community Composting Project was started in 1992 on a small plot on the edge of the local allotments by volunteers concerned at the amount of garden material disposed of in the rural skip service and sent to landfill. Proper Job has grown to become a multi-faceted community business employing up to 20 people, mostly part time, incorporating a range of interconnected activities including community composting, local food production, reuse and repair, community café/shop and training.  Reuse and repair activities include Community Repaint, timber reuse, furniture and building materials. Research and development includes in-vessel composting of kitchen scraps to meet the strict new composting legislation. The project now has a permanent site with eco-designed and constructed buildings including a straw bale barn, Segal style timber framed office building featuring sheepswool insulation and turf roof, and dry composting toilets. Its foremost objective is to raise awareness of the need to conserve resources and reduce waste. It is committed to the principle of local sustainability. Proper Job incorporates a range of interconnected activities including community composting, local food production, reuse and repair, community café/shop and training - all of which help to create local employment.
